When a desperate
young woman called a local Petco looking for help, a PAL member took
the phone call since we were there for an adoption event. The young
woman had been calling around for a week trying to find placement
for a beautiful female chocolate lab, who was found near Katy Trail
in Dallas. Efforts to find the owner, or a rescue organization to
take her in, had been fruitless. With no good idea of where this dog
could be fostered, the PAL member accepted her anyway, since she had
been getting out of the small yard she was being kept in and the
young woman was out of options.
Katy the lab (aka
KaterBug) is 2-3 yrs old and has probably been used as a breeder
most of her life. She appears to have had multiple litters. She
had a hurt foot, her ears were infected, and she had heartworms. It
is possible that her owner didn't want to spend the money for
heartworm treatment, and dumped her, but we'll never know for sure.
Katy's vet bill so far has been almost $400.00, and it is worth
every penny! She is such a special dog!
